Chaparral Ventures Limited in conjunction with Pasquier & Cie, a private investment bank, jointly manage the Chaparral Technology Venture Funds. Pasquier provides the financial expertise whilst Chaparral provides the technology assessment, management oversight and intellectual property protection functions. Fund Overview
Chaparral Technology Venture Funds are a series of technology venture capital investment funds for early stage investment in unique and innovative technology enterprises driven by passionate and committed individuals in the Asia Pacific region. The entire funding pool of over $1billion was provided from the Adelphia Foundation, a private foundation which houses the accumulated wealth of a successful technology entrepreneur. Chaparral commenced operations on July 14, 2012 and undertook it first investment within 30 days of commencement.
Chaparral is run by highly experienced technology executives with extensive international connections and deep insider knowledge.
The Investor
The Chaparral Technology Venture Funds secured their total funding from a single source, the Adelphia Foundation which was established by its founder with the proceeds of a long and successful career in technology development over several decades. As a result, Chaparral is able to move quickly and decisively, bring international connections, distribution and partnering channels, OEM opportunities and management leverage to help emerging companies with innovative and creative ideas achieve international success.
The Management Team
Chaparral employs a team of just seven professionals in a uniquely flat management structure to operate the Funds. Four are dedicated to making investments, developing the investee companies, coaching their executives, finding professional staff, leveraging the international investor network, sitting on investee Boards, building wealth and performing exits by way of listing or trade sales.
Two are key support executives with many years of experience in the industry sectors we focus on; our Chief Technology Officer, who oversees all investments from a technology point of view, builds the deal flow network with internationally recognised centres of innovation (including universities, cooperative research centres, national and state Governments, technology incubators and industry leaders), and builds the research network with our investor’s resources. Our Chief Research Analyst has over twenty years of experience in risk assessment and due diligence in a large variety of technology start ups. An Administration Officer supports the whole team.
The Funds management team comprises over one hundred years of operational expertise in the technologies industries, over fifty years of international ‘hands on’ experience with exports of innovative technologies, and more than twenty years of early stage investment experience.
The Investment Committee
The Investment Committee is responsible for approving all investments by the Funds and comprises three very talented and experienced executives from the team.
Focus of the Funds
Telecommunications: Focused primarily on LiFi technologies, wavelength division multiplexing and photonics.
Photovoltaic and Renewables: Focus is on solar energy systems including harvesting, storage and trading models as well as new photovoltaic technologies.
Industrial & Environmental: Focus is on high efficiency lighting and associated remote management, control and data acquisition systems, utility automation and energy management, environmental process technologies.
